“Hi you, Today I am sad. My brother's girlfriend is from Ethiopia and is the absolute sweetest…”
Hi you,
Today I am sad. My brother's girlfriend is from Ethiopia and is the absolute sweetest person I have ever met. She and my brother have been together for over eight years. They’re buying a house together. She is me; I’m fading. My brother called me yesterday because she was stopped and was accused of shoplifting. She had been a few steps in front of my brother when they stopped her. She pulled out her receipt; it showed them it, but it wasn't until my white brother asked why they stopped her, that they let her go.
Why is it 2020 & we are still fighting for equality?! I will never know her battle. I will never know what she has to deal with every day, but it breaks my heart. I’m so sad. I will never understand how the color of someone’s skin makes them inferior. I am angry. I worry for their safety & the safety of my unborn niece/nephew, who I can’t protect. Why do we have to fight to make people safe?!
